At Blue Grass Chemical Specialties, responsible manufacturing has always been a core part of how we operate. Today, we are proud to announce that those longstanding values have been formally recognized. Blue Grass has earned the Bronze EcoVadis Medal, placing us in the 74th percentile of companies assessed worldwide and achieving a strong score of 66 out of 100 in our first year of participation.
The EcoVadis sustainability ratings evaluate companies across a wide range of performance indicators, including environmental stewardship, labor and human rights practices, and ethical business conduct. The recognition highlights organizations that demonstrate well-structured sustainability management systems and measurable commitment to responsible operations.
A Reflection of Our Longstanding Culture
While the EcoVadis assessment required extensive documentation and verification, it ultimately confirmed something our team has known for decades. Sustainability is not a new initiative at Blue Grass; it is built into our daily operations and company culture.
From the raw materials we process to the way we manage resources, our team consistently prioritizes efficiency, reuse, and environmental responsibility. Many of the materials we utilize originate from high-quality recycled metals, supporting circular manufacturing practices while maintaining the purity and performance standards our customers depend on.
This mindset is so embedded in our organization that it has even shaped our internal culture. Our chemist, affectionately known as “Recycle Michael,” has long championed responsible material utilization and recycling initiatives throughout our operations. These types of efforts reflect the collaborative and forward-thinking mindset that drives Blue Grass forward.

Continuous Improvements in Environmental Stewardship
Our leadership team has also played a significant role in strengthening sustainability performance. Under the guidance of Director of Operations Andy Nelson, Blue Grass has implemented multiple initiatives focused on reducing water consumption and minimizing operational waste. These improvements help preserve natural resources while maintaining the efficiency and reliability our customers expect.
EcoVadis specifically evaluates environmental performance through metrics such as carbon footprint, water management, and waste reduction strategies. The strong results Blue Grass achieved demonstrate our commitment to continuously improving these areas while maintaining high-quality chemical manufacturing standards.
The Work Behind the Achievement
Participating in the EcoVadis assessment required a significant company-wide effort. The process involved weeks of gathering data, organizing documentation, and standardizing procedures to ensure transparency and accuracy. We would like to extend special recognition to our Head of HR Tina Kramer and our Chemical Engineering co-op Tim Hoffmann, whose dedication and attention to detail played a critical role in completing the assessment successfully.
Their work helped translate the everyday practices of our team into measurable results that reflect our sustainability performance.
A Milestone and a Starting Point
Earning the EcoVadis Bronze Medal is an important milestone for Blue Grass Chemical Specialties. It validates our commitment to responsible manufacturing and highlights the strength of our sustainability management systems compared to global industry peers.
At the same time, we view this achievement as a foundation for continued progress.
Sustainability is an ongoing journey, and Blue Grass remains committed to strengthening environmental, social, and ethical performance across every aspect of our operations.
By investing in responsible practices, we not only support environmental stewardship but also strengthen the reliability, transparency, and trust our customers rely on every day.
